Sweet Honey in the Rock Opens Carver Season

The Carver Community Cultural Center will open its 2009/2010 season October 9 with the internationally acclaimed, Grammy Award winning a capella group, Sweet Honey in the Rock.

The music that the six woman ensemble sings is steeped in the traditions of the Black church with songs like Father, I Stretch My Hands to Thee and In The Upper Room, the Civil Rights Movement and songs about social justice.  Add a  little jazz scatting and a taste of down home blues and the spectrum of  African-American music is fully covered.
