Tychanika Kimbrough, a 15-year old honor roll student at the Brooks Academy of Science and Engineering, recently attended the Close-Up Academy in Washington, D. C.
“My seven Day trip to Washington D.C was an incredible experience with Close Up Academy. I m et with students from all over the Country and from Kazahkstan,” Miss Kimbrough said.  
In addition to visiting monuments and touring the National Mall and the Smithsonian Institute, Miss Kimbrough had the opportunity to attend a peace class with Colman McCarthy,  a Washington Journalist who is the founder and directer of the Center for Teaching Peace. She also attended a debate between  Liberal Michael Morosi and Conservative Dan Gainor were she was able to ask a question.
Miss Kimbrough was first runner-up in the 2009 Miss Juneteenth pageant.  She is active in her community and in her church, Bethany First Baptist where she is a Youth Usher.  She has been involved with Neighborhood First Alliance, a grassroots community organization, she was six years old.
Her school involvement includes being a member of the Student Council, a varsity cheerleader and dancer and is a cellist and pianist.
A former Girl Scout who earned over 100 badges and patches, she is also in the Duke University Talent Identification Program.
Her goal is to become a lawyer and, eventually, a judge.
