Roland Martin Headlines Link's Brunch PDF Print E-mail
roland_martinThe San Antonio Chapter of The Links, Incorporated will kick off a campaign to create a permanent scholarship for students at St. Philip’s College by hosting “A Brunch with CNN analyst Roland S. Martin” on Sept. 11.
After 50 years of providing health, nutrition, and educational programs in San Antonio, the  women’s group is expanding its community service to create an endowed scholarship that will be self-funding for decades to come.  “This endowed scholarship will be a way to continually identify deserving students and support their college efforts – regardless of the economic conditions or the outcome of annual events hosted by The Links,” said Mary Davis, 2010 chapter president. “We see Roland’s presence and personal support of our efforts as a positive sign that we can and will continue to do our share toward serving our community for another 50 years.”
In an interview with African-American Reflections newspaper, Mr. Martin says he will be speaking to his San Antonio audience about how “critically important it is to from a true Black-Brown coalition.”
Mr. Martin, who cut his journalistic teeth in the Black press, notes that demographers had initially predicted that America would be a minority majority country by 2050; now that date has been pushed back to 2042.   He says that Blacks and Hispanics have not seized the opportunities that are opening up for them as the minority population grows.
Mr. Martin has won more than 30 professional awards for journalistic excellence.  A nationally syndicated columnist, he is the author of the popular book Speak, Brother! A Black Man’s View of America.
He has appeared numerous times on The Situation Room, Anderson Cooper 360,  and a host of other shows and networks.
The brunch will be from 10 a. m. - 12 noon at the JW Marriott Resort.   Tickets are $75 per person and may be purchased online at sanantonio-linksinc.org or by mail. Make check or money order payable to The San Antonio Chapter Links, Inc. and mail to San Antonio Chapter of The Links, Inc., P.O. Box  8056, San Antonio, TX.  78208.
